Extra police and security patrols are being carried out in and around the grounds of Barnsley Hospital after a nurse and visitor had their handbags snatched on the same night.
The two thefts took place last month, one occurred off the hospital site near Queen's Drive, and the other in the car park in front of the hospital.
A spokeswoman from the hospital said no-one was injured and a man was arrested by police soon afterwards. Enquiries are ongoing.
She said: "The safety of our staff and patients is of utmost importance to us and a number of measures have been put into place to enhance the safety around the hospital site, including increased security and police patrols.
"We have also given our staff further safety guidance, so they are more aware and can take more control over their personal safety when travelling on foot."
