Pupils are shamed on Facebook

By Katia Harston, Chief Reporter Friday 19th October 2012

Sexually explicit messages revealing the 'dirtiest secrets' of school children in Barnsley have been posted on Facebook pages.

Scores of pupils have been publicly shamed on the social networking site after so-called 'trolling' pages were created for Penistone Grammar School, Barnsley Academy, Barnsley College, Kirk Balk ALC and Darton College.

There are also pages relating to Wombwell, Darfield and Royston.

The anonymous administrators of the pages had urged Facebook users to send in 'dirty secrets' and scores of children have been named by others in streams of posts, many of which are of a sexual nature.

It is understood 'pages for Darton College, Kirk Balk and Barnsley Academy have now been removed.

Comments included ones such as 'XX lost her virginity to a 22-year-old' and more messages which were even more explicit and degrading to those named.

The police have been made aware of the issue.
