Judges have tough job deciding shortlist

Friday 12th October 2012

There are some great contenders for the Green Award category and one of them is Michelle Powell, of Cockerham Avenue, Barnsley.

She has been put forward by her partner Mark Cogan who thinks she should be recognised for her 'commitment and endless research' into green eco-cleaning.

He said: "This is down to her passion and hard work in a healthier way of cleaning homes to benefit the lifestyle and health of the younger and older generations in the community.

"Having cleaned in the past, Michelle has seen a radical change in the chemicals found in cleaning substances and the effect it as on people's health.

"She has taken it upon herself to start her own eco-friendly cleaning service using only eco-friendly natural green products and practices.

"They have been beneficial to the people in the community by implementing a healthier green sustainable cleaning regime.

"I feel Michelle is contributing positively to the community by helping people on their path to a healthier, eco-friendly lifestyle that's good for them and the environment and our future.

"This is why I think Michelle should be nominated for the green award, I am so proud of her."

A former fire-fighter turned community first responder for the ambulance service has also been given a nod of recognition in the glitzy awards.

Natalie Tighe has nominated Ian Lodge, of Dodworth, for the Volunteer of the Year award after working alongside him as a first responder since June.

She said: "He is a retired fire-fighter and spends his spare time on call to respond to life threatening emergency calls within a three-mile radius of the village.

"Until I joined him as a responder this year he had worked almost single-handedly as a responder in Dodworth for three years.

"The role is completely voluntary and recently Ian helped an ambulance crew resuscitate a patient who had had a cardiac arrest.

"He is one of the most generous and kind people I have ever met and will help anyone wherever and whenever he can. I am proud to work alongside him. In my eyes he is a very deserving candidate to win an award."
