Fun day to help charity which helps poorly kids

By Lynsey Bradford, Town Reporter Sunday 5th August 2012

A family fun day has been organised to help a group which helps children with cancer become a charity.

Briony's Gift was founded by Meayla and Darren Woodward after their three-year-old daughter Briony died in 2007 of a cancer common in children, neuroblastoma.

The couple grant wishes made by children who are suffering from cancer and are aiming to become a registered charity but first need to raise £5,000.

Meayla said: "We're in the process of turning it into a registered charity and need to raise £5,000. So far we have raised about £3,000 and need to raise the rest by February."

Little Emmerdale actress Sophia Amber Moore, who plays Sarah Sugden, will attend the event.

In the ITV soap, she is suffering from a serious condition called Fanconi Anaemia, which is the result of a genetic defect and the majority of patients develop cancer.

There will also be a bouncy castle, balloon making, stalls, raffles and hook a duck at the fund day at St Thomas's Church, Gawber on Friday August 10 from 2-5pm.
