Accused admits Dearne stabbing

By Lynsey Bradford, Town Reporter Wednesday 18th July 2012
Stabbed: Philip Alan Smith

A Thurnscoe man on trial for the murder of Philip Alan Smith has pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Sheffield Crown Court.

Gary McKeown, 37, of Church Street, will be sentenced on Thursday for stabbing Philip, 36, of Stotfold Drive on January 28.

The court had heard evidence from Philip's brother Ben, 22, who said the pair had gone to McKeown's home so Ben and McKeown could have a 'proper fight' after an incident earlier in the day when McKeown had bitten Ben's eyebrow 'like a dog'.

McKeown had denied murder.
