Police have named a 21-year-old who was killed following a smash on the M1 in Barnsley.
Justin Storey died in hospital on Wednesday, almost a week after the collision on the southbound motorway. He is from Darlington and his girlfriend Samantha McNicholas issued a statement on behalf of his family.
"Justin was a much loved son, brother, grandson, boyfriend and friend. His warmth of character and kind nature brought out the best in everyone. Justin had a bright, promising future and we had high hopes for his achievements.
"Words cannot describe how deeply he will be missed.”
Police said the crash occurred at about 9.30pm on Thursday, July 5, when a blue Volvo HGV driven by a Bradford man, 40, was travelling in the first lane between junctions 38 and 37. A white Scania HGV, driven by a 57-year-old man from Ripley, Derbyshire, is reported to have approached the rear of the Volvo and then pulled into the second lane to overtake it.
Justin was in a blue Honda Civic, and is believed to have lost control, overtaking the Scania and then colliding into the rear of the Volvo before coming to a stop.
The drivers of the Volvo and Scania did not sustain any injuries.
Police have re-appealed for information following Justin's death. Anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone with information that could assist officers is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1254 of Thursday, July 5.
