Trains cancelled because of 'broken rail'
Wednesday 22nd February 2012
A broken rail near Elsecar has forced train journeys to be cancelled while emergency repairs are done.
The fault was discovered on Wednesday afternoon and commuters using stations across Barnsley faced lengthy delays.
Trains were cancelled between Meadowhall and Barnsley and a Northern Rail spokesman said they would last until at least 5pm.
Network Rail said its engineers hoped to fix the issue by 5pm and said replacement bus services were being used until then.
