Cold snap delays roadworks

Icy conditions have delayed roadworks that were due to start on Burton Road this week.

Barnsley Council engineers were preparing to do work on the carriageway and footpaths, as well as improving parking bays, drainage and street lighting.

But as temperatures plunged as low as -11C the work had to be postponed.

The work has been rescheduled to start on Monday. The road will be closed from the junction with Wakefield Road to number 52 Burton Road for about eight weeks.

During the closure an alternative route will be signed off Burton Road, Wakefield Road and Old Mill Lane via the newly-constructed road.
