Trio arrested over 'metal theft'
Tuesday 14th February 2012
Three men were arrested following the discovery of allegedly stolen cable near West Road, Pogmoor.
Police were called just before 11am on Thursday and the men - two from Barnsley, aged 47 and 32, and another of no fixed abode, 27 - were arrested.
It is alleged the cable was stolen from the railway at Pogmoor. British Transport Police interviewed the suspects who have been bailed until Friday, March 23.
Det Insp Mick Jackson said the force worked closely with local police and scrap dealers to try to combat metal theft. "Stealing cable is an extremely dangerous act which is costly to the rail industry and to the many thousands of passengers."
