School shut due to power failiure

Penistone Grammar was forced to close today because there is no heating or electricity in the school.

It comes after a power failure in parts of the town on Sunday night which was restored at about 12.30am this morning. Despite the power coming back on Penistone Grammar is still without a supply.

Coun Andrew Millner, of the Penistone West ward, has contacted supplier Northern Power to express his concern at the failures. He said: "It emerged this morning that Penistone Grammar School was without power and this is likely to continue till about lunchtime today.

"As a result our brand new fantastic school has had to shut. The head is busy trying to contact hundreds of children and I fully understand their anger and concern about the reliability of power to their site."
