Snow forces road closure

The Woodhead Pass has been closed in both directions because of heavy snow.

It is shut between the Flouch Inn, near Langsett, and the Gun Inn, Mottram. Snow is forecast to continue falling for several hours.

PC Chris Foster, of Hoyland SNT, says snow is settling and roads are treacherous even though gritters have been out.

He tweeted at about 8.15pm : "Roads in Hoyland SNT area covered with good layer of snow, couple of gritters seen but not touching it - still snowing!"

Update, 8.25pm: A section of the A616, Stocksbridge bypass, near the Flouch roundabout has been added to the road closure list.
