Flat blaze was started by cigarette

A fire broke out in a flat in Royston on Wednesday.

Crews from Royston and Cudworth were called to the kitchen blaze on Jubilee Gardens at about 8pm.

A smoke alarm had alerted the male occupant who got out of the first floor flat before fire-fighters arrived.

They spent more than an hour at the fire which was contained in the kitchen but the living room was smoke damaged. It is thought it was started by a cigarette.
