The Prince of Wales shook hands with hundreds of people who had braved the cold and drizzle to welcome him to Barnsley.

His Royal Highness waved and briefly spoke to nursery children as he arrived at the Chronicle offices on Church Street, Barnsley.

He went on a tour of the premises before taking time to talk to the public who had lined the streets.

Julia Jones, 39, of Kirkland Gardens, Monk Bretton, brought her son Gabriel to meet him.

"He was absolutely charming," she said.

"He was really nice and concerned about us being cold and wet. He really took the time to speak to people. When he saw us waving and came over. It was a real honour to meet him."
