Town ready for royal visit

Barnsley is ready for the visit of The Prince of Wales.

Barnsley is ready for the visit of The Prince of Wales.

 

He will start his tour of the town with a visit to the Barnsley Chronicle offices.

 

He will meet the Hewitt family, which owns the newspaper, and will be shown around the Chronicle newsroom and look at the first edition of the paper, printed in 1858.

 

Then Prince Charles will meet staff who work for sister companies Script Media, which publishes business to business magazines and runs http://www.wearebarnsley.com, and book publisher Pen and Sword.

 

He will unveil a plaque, sign the visitor book and start the press rolling to print a souvenir supplement.

 

Afterwards he will meet Dickie Bird at his statue before touring the University Campus Barnsley and Wentworth Castle Trust, where he will see the restoration of the Victorian conservatory.
