Walkers' explosive find is made safe by police and rescuers

WOODHEAD Mountain Rescue helped police search for an unexploded shell found by walkers at The Flouch.

The shell was discovered on Margery Hill last Monday. The team spent seven hours searching for the shell and helping transport police officers, including a specialist explosive search dog, during a four-kilometre hike over boggy peat moor to the scene.

Incident controller Mike France said: "The shell turned out to be a 75mm anti-tank projectile fired from the wartime Armoured Fighting Vehicle Range at Midhope near Langsett."
