WHEN the red, red robins come bob-bob-bobbing along, Jesse Davis, 72, is ready with a treat.
He started feeding the birds in Hillies fields, Wombwell, during last year's cold snap and now he has them eating out of his hand.
Jessie, of Overdale Road, said: "Initially they would hop around my feet about six inches away but after a while I gained their trust and they fly into my hand for food. I can call them from 50 yards away and they will come."
The former miner, who takes food to the fields twice a day, says blue tits, black birds and sparrows also land close by but are not so trusting as the robins.
He said: "I am glad to be helping because all birds have struggled this winter but apparently a lot of robins haven't made it through the bad weather."
