Dismissed man in row with council

A MAN who helped maintain the allotments in Grimethorpe has threatened to report Brierley Town Council to the Standards Board after he was dismissed.

Harry Swift of Oldroyd Avenue, was relieved of his duties at allotments on Acorn Way after Brierley Council said it could run the allotments more efficiently.

But Harry claims the clerk, Jan Cooper, said there had been complaints about him not doing his job properly at an open meeting.

Harry said he'd asked the council more than once at monthly meetings for a letter stating the complaints.

He added: "I don't want to be nasty but they have hurt me. I've been there such a long time."

Chairman Coun Pat Doyle said: "As I've already told Mr Swift in open meetings, the reason for not using his services was because the council reorganised and decided they could administer the allotments in a more sufficient way.
