Threat from nurses to work to rule

NURSES at Barnsley Hospital are threatening to work to rule after the trust created a new director post.

Sharon Linter had been acting chief nurse and director of quality standards in place of Juliette Greenwood, who was involved in a car accident, since January 2009.

But a hospital committee decided to split the role into two full-time positions when Mrs Greenwood returned to work last month.

Ms Linter has been appointed director of quality standards, a band nine role which pays at least £75,000 a year.

An internal e-mail sent to all staff on Wednesday said it was necessary given the 'sheer scale of work required.'
