THE headteacher at Milefield Primary School missed out on a trip to 10 Downing Street - because she was not informed about it.
Paula Murray was invited to meet Gordon Brown in recognition of her achievements over three years - the school is one of the most improved in the UK.
She was unavailable when the Chronicle contacted the school, but business manager Tracy Atkinson said Paula had not been told about the trip.
Tracy added: "If she had known, she would have gone, no one told her about it. One possible issue is because we have changed headteachers, the letter may have gone to the previous headteacher."
The Chronicle understands Paula was not the only headteacher in Barnsley not to receive her invitation and Ann Wise at Heather Garth School in Bolton-upon-Dearne also missed out.
Paula said in a statement she was thrilled the school had been acknowledged nationally by the government and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
She added: "I am extremely proud of all my staff."
