NEW signs showing the route for cyclists from Locke Park to the town centre appear to tell them to cycle on the pavement, a councillor says.
Coun Malcolm Price said: "Are the cyclists supposed to ride on the road, or on the pavement? Because they're on posts on the pavement, on the left side furthest away from the road."
Some cycle paths feature signs showing cyclists should go on one side and pedestrians on the other, but these just show a picture of a bike.
He also says the route chosen, down Locke Avenue, Hawthorne Street and onto Park Grove is hazardous due to parked cars and a blind bend.
"It's the most dangerous road for cycling in my ward. It's just ridiculous."
A council spokesman said: "The signs are ones approved by Department for Transport (DfT) for this purpose, which we are obliged to use. Road signs are normally located on street furniture on the footpath.
"This does not imply that road users can use the footpath."
