COUNCILLORS may start making more of an effort with their appearance if plans to broadcast council meetings live on the Internet go ahead.

Video footage will be broadcast live on the internet for anyone to watch and will also be stored and kept as a record.

Coun Leader Steve Houghton said: "I don't know if we might see one or two councillors preening themselves who didn't previously.

"Hopefully there will be a lot of people interested in watching it, seeing what we get up to. It's making things more transparent, part of the democratic process."

He hopes the system can be in place by March but final arrangements have not yet been made.
