Underage boozing to be probed

COUNCILLORS are having an inquiry into the extent of underage drinking in Barnsley and the effect it is having on the health of teenagers.

The children's services scrutiny commission is seeking information from individuals and organisations about when, where and why youngsters are drinking, how much they are drinking and the kind of behaviour it is leading to.

Councillors also want to know about the impact drinking has on education, health and the relationship booze has to anti-social behaviour, crime and drug abuse.

Members of the commission also want to look at the drinking culture in other countries and what would stop youngsters drinking.

Information should be submitted by Friday January 16 to the Scrutiny Commission Office, Borough Secretary's Department, Barnsley MBC, Town Hall, Barnsley, S70 2TA or emailed to scrutiny@barnsley.gov.uk
