Law students take the honours

A TEAM of law students took part in a mock trial competition at Leeds Crown Court.

The group which is studying law at Barnsley College took on the roles of barristers, witnesses, magistrates and court staff.

They prepared prosecution and defence cases for specially-written criminal cases. The team made it through to the regional final after winning all the cases in their heats.

They missed out in the final, when they were judged by His Honour Shaun Spencer. He praised Barnsley's Mbeko Matoti saying the closing speech was one of the best he had heard and was a 'highlight of the day'.

Barnsley College law tutor Kathy Jenner said, “This has been an exciting and nerve-wracking day for everybody but a fantastic experience for our students and a real measure of the hard work they have all put in.”
