A WOMAN bordering on dangerously obese says she will have to put on two stone before she is allowed medical treatment to help her slim.
Ann Land, of Kexborough, told of her 'exasperation' at the level of help she was offered when viisting her health centre in Darton.
She was refused medical treatment based on her body mass index (BMI) - a measurement used to decide whether a person is underweight, healthy, overweight or obese.
Ann's weighs just over 15st, is 5ft 4 and has a BMI of 37.
This places her at the top end of the obese category as opposed to a healthy BMI which is between 20 and 25.
To receive medical help it needs to be 40 or higher - which means putting on up to two stone before she has a BMI which meets criteria for treatment.
Ann said: "What a waste of time it was asking for help. My BMI isn't high enough so all I was offered is a diet sheet with advice on portion sizes and the amount of fruit and vegetables i should be eating.
