STAIRFOOT residents believe their village is becoming a dumping ground for 'unsavoury' things after learning of plans to locate another waste plant in the area.
They only discovered that areas near their homes had been earmarked after reading it in last week's Chronicle.
Barnsley Council has put forward nine potential sites which includes the current waste centre on Grange Lane and the former Beatson Clark site.
Louise Johnson, of Bank Street, off Grange Lane, and her neighbours believe Stairfoot is becoming a dumping ground and argue they already have to put up with one waste site and believe the only reason plans for a gypsy site behind McDonalds were thrown out were because they objected to it.
She said: "It is crafty, they have bought all these scraps of land which are being earmarked for unsavoury things. I know the gypsy site has been scrapped but if we hadn't said anything, it wouldn't have been.
"How do they get away with putting forward two sites within such close proximity. My question to Barnsley Council is this, is Stairfoot the new dumping site for Barnsley because it feels like it?"
