Jammed removal van ripped to bits

A REMOVAL van had its top and sides ripped off after getting stuck under a bridge — despite being 11 inches lower than the height on the warning sign.

Nobody was injured but the firm, Specialised Movers, is now seeking legal advice because its lorry was 13 feet 10-inch high and the bridge, on Sheffield Road, Springvale, is marked as 14ft 9in.

A spokesman for Barnsley council said they were send a structural engineer to the site today to check the bridge height but they are confident it is correct as a number of local firms with high sided vehicles use this route every day.
