Gardeners mark four years of hard work

WORM charming, snail racing and home grown goodies attracted scores of people to Darton community garden's first vegetable show.

Green-fingered volunteers at the Bridge Street site were blessed with a beautiful autumn Sunday on September 21 - just in time to host their first show celebrating four years of hard work on the gardens.

One of the more unexpected successes on the day was worm charming where competitors tapped on the grass with forks, spades and feet to make the worms think it was raining, bringing them to the surface to be counted.

The winning number collected was 32 worms from a 1.5 square meter patch of grass in just 15 minutes.
