Residents on the tail of rat plague

THE Chronicle has obtained pictures of rats in an area where Barnsley Council allegedly told a businessman there was no sign of rats this week.

Elia Demetriov at the Dodworth Road Fish Bar said someone from the council came to look at the problem on Tuesday after four years of complaints, but they said they found no sign of rats. The photographs of rats taken last Saturday at 2pm in an alley between Dodworth Road and Wharncliffe Industrial Estate.

He said: "I'm sick of them. A couple of weeks ago, they chewed through the electrics on my car. It cost me £350. My premises are spotless. I have someone from a pest control company come every six weeks to check everything. But the problem is outside on public land. I'd say 95 percent of them are coming from the park across the road."

The rats run across the road and through the alleyway into the industrial estate. Other businesses confirm there is a major problem with rats.
