12 GCSEs for brave lorry crash teenager

A TEENAGER who was seriously injured when a speeding lorry toppled over and pushed him through a garden wall has passed 12 GCSEs despite missing more than six months off school.

Simon Town, of Springwood View, Springvale, was bedridden for two months after the 32-tonne lorry hit a bridge on Sheffield Road, Penistone, in January. Both his legs were broken and he was in plaster for eight weeks.

The 16-year-old Penistone Grammar pupil returned to school part time and was amazed to find he got two As, eight Bs, one C and one D.

Mum Janette said: "The fact he missed so much school time and had to motivate himself to do all the studying from home makes it an even bigger achievement."

Simon's predicted grades dropped from As and Bs to Ds after the accident and he had to have personal tutors to stop him falling too far behind.
