House in blast will be re-built

THE husband of a pensioner who died after their home in Thurgoland exploded has applied to the council to rebuild the house.

Leonard Wilson wants to demolish the remains of Tontine Lodge, Cote Lane, and rebuild it exactly as it was after it was badly damaged in the fire in March.

The couple both suffered burns in the explosion but Margaret Wilson, 69, died eight weeks later in hospital as a result of her injuries.

Mr Wilson has been living with his daughter Mandy Hawkins in Green Moor.

The two bedroom cottage will be rebuilt as it was before the explosion as an 'upside down' house with the living area downstairs and bedrooms upstairs.

The Chronicle understands Mr Wilson will sell the house when it is finished. Speaking at the time of her mother's death Mandy, 48, said it would be too painful for her dad to go back.
