A MUSIC festival is to be held in Grimethorpe for the first time since the pit was closed.

'A Festival of Music' will host performances from Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Brass Band, and Wakefield Gospel Choir and will be held at both St Luke's Church, Grimethorpe and St Paul's Church, Brierley.

Parish Priest Father Peter Needham said: "The point is to raise the profile of music in the village.

"It is all part of the regeneration of the hearts and minds and attitudes of people. We're trying to show the village off, trying to say we've got talent."
