JOHN Anthony Dannatt had the last one for the road when his funeral cortege halted outside a bar yesterday.
Arthur O'Loughlin, the owner, walked out of Locky's Bar in Wombwell and put a glass of gin and lemonade next to the coffin in the hearse.
The cortege then made its way to the crematorium at Ardsley, where the service was conducted by Rev P.Bold.
Arthur said:"We have been open ten years and John was one of the longest serving punters.
"You never had any problems with him. If everyone was like John, there would be less trouble in the world.
"It will be on the house, since John has bought plenty of drinks in here. But we do not know what will happen to the drink when the hearse gets to the crematorium."
John, 67, of West Pit Hill, Brampton, died in hospital last week. He was a former steelworker and had lived in Brampton for 50 years.
