Kath all set to celebrate 30 years

THE stewardess of Hoyland Catholic social club will take a break from serving pints to celebrate 30 years in charge.

Kath Flanagan, 67, reached the landmark this week and will raise a glass with members tomorrow to celebrate.

The former nurse said the role had altered over the years but the club still proved popular with the locals.

She said: "There have been tremendous changes since I started in 1978. All the pits like Elsecar and Cortonwood were working with men on their different shifts. The sewing clubs have closed now too but it is still a lovely place to be. "I've loved working here which is why I've been here for 30 years. It's like having a second family."
