Get me to the church on time

THE CLOCK at St Paul's Church in Brierley is to chime for the first time in more than 45 years after the spire was restored.

It will ring out between 8am and 8pm once the final adjustments have been made in a few days. The windows in the spire have been repaired, as have parts of the structural work.

Parish Priest Father Peter Needham said: "I'm very pleased. The work means whatever happens to the rest of the building, the spire will not fall into the church."

He is now filling out application forms to start phase two, to repair the roof and provide a new kitchen, toilet and disabled access ramp. Photographs of the different stages of work will be displayed at a celebration event on Saturday May 24.
