Visiting hours changed to give mums more rest

VISITING hours on Barnsley hospital's maternity unit have been shortened to give new mums a chance to catch up on their sleep.

A two hour later start in the morning was given the go-ahead after a successful three month trial.

Head of midwifery Sue Gibson says the move means staff will have more time to spend with patients and added: "Mums who have had a poor night are getting more rest in the mornings because the wards aren't as busy first thing. Dads are satisfied that they too can get some rest and not feel pressurised to be with their partner from 8.00am."

The new hours are 10am-8pm for partners and children, 2pm-5pm and 6.30pm-8pm for other visitors.
