Yorkshire Water leaves burst main for a week

A BURST water main was left gushing for five days before Yorkshire Water fixed the problem.

It ruptured on Monday, April 7 near Sackup Lane and Kingsway junction in Mapplewell, and was reported on Tuesday by a Sackup Lane resident.

By Thursday, April 10, Yorkshire Water engineers were nowhere to be seen and the same resident raised the issue with Coun John Parkinson.

He told the Chronicle he immediately rang the water company to find out why the leak had not been fixed.

He added:"It was originally reported on Tuesday and I reported the burst yet again on Thursday.

"To my surprise YW said they would attend the problem on Monday, April 14, nearly a week after it was brought to their attention.

"It may be acceptable to Yorkshire Water to leave it for so long but it is not acceptable for locals considering the current climate of rising water charges."

Steve Parsley, a spokesperson for YW, said company records showed the leak was first reported on Friday, April 11, not Monday, April 7.

He added: "We understand our customers' concerns and always encourage them to report bursts and leaks promptly."
