Speed restriction call after car embeds itself in house

SPEED should be reduced on Snape Hill Road and George Street, according to a councillor speaking after a car crashed and embedded itself in a house.

Coun Ron Fisher said the crash involving Tony and Janet Fisher's George Street home in the early hours of Sunday highlighted the dangers of the road.

He said: "We've spoken many times about this road. It is near two schools and it is a very dangerous stretch. We have said before, a 20 MPH speed limit would be ample and would help keep everybody safe."

The couple are both still shaken and upset by the crash. Janet, 58, said yesterday: "I still keep thinking what would have happened if we had been downstairs. A huge brick came right through the front room and landed in the kitchen smashing my table to bits."

The front wall of the house has almost come down but the staircase at the rear of the house was damaged and flying debris caused damage through the lower floor.
