Can you name our Monk Bretton choirs?

CAN any of our readers fill in the missing names on a photograph of Monk Bretton Church choir members taken in the late 1930s?

The photographs must have been taken pre-1939 because the Vicar is Rev Mercer who left the church that year and became the Vicar of St Wilfred's, Cantley, near Doncaster.

One of the photos shows the church choir. The names that are known are: left to right: Geoffrey Portman (with candle), Harold Burkinshaw (with candle), Colin Ball (with incense) and Jack Thompson.

We are not aware of the choir member carrying the Processional Cross or the others on the back row. On the front row there is, left to right: Les Whitehead, not known, not known, Geoff Haigh (who became a popular band leader), Father Mercer, Terry Strange (with incense boat) and Eddie Marvin (with candle).

The photograph was supplied by Barry Jackson and he would be grateful if anyone could supply the missing names.

Information, please, to Kath Parkin, Editorial Department, Barnsley Chronicle, 47, Church Street, Barnsley.
