Pupils and staff from the 1940s and 1960sBy KATH PARKIN   MEMORIES has received several photographs of schoolchildren who attended Wilthorpe Junior School in the 1940s and Barnsley Girls' High School staff and pupils taken during the 1960s.
They were submitted by a former headmaster and Barnsley college lecturer Jeffrey Hall who was a pupil at the Wilthorpe school. He now lives in Wales.
Mr Hall was headteacher of Hessle High School ( East Riding of Yorkshire, but now Humberside) for 13 years. From 1962 to 1966 he was a lecturer at Barnsley College of Technology.
His late wife, Lydia, was a teacher at Barnsley Girls' High School.
Mr Hall has submitted a photograph of Wilthorpe Junior School's sports team taken in 1949. Among the pupils represented are: back row: Ann Foulkes, fifth from the left; C Dunk (far right). Paul Watson went on to win the Yorkshire Schools' Sports 100 yard sprint championship title and he was selected to take part in the All England Schools' Championships. He excelled at the championships and made the final making him one of the finest young sprinters in the country. At this time he was a pupil at Barnsley Grammar School.
There is also a photograph outside the school of a large group of children who attended Wilthorpe. They consisted of forms four, five and six in the school year 1947/1948.
Some of the pupils were in their last year at Wilthorpe. Miss Sharpe was in charge of the group from 1946-1949.
