Households in Darton East ward have been sent a Barnsley Labour Party newspaper.
A piece from one of our most respected councillors, John Parkinson, explains how he is stepping down at the next election. I wish him well.
Unfortunately the glossy newspaper then goes on to state how Labour opposes “cuts in spending” on education, the police, the NHS and local authorities. Further to this, additional spending on school building, technology for traffic wardens and job creation is advocated. At the same time reductions in VAT are called for.
To cap it all Dan Jarvis says: “The last Labour government put us on the right track” – a track that has us buried under a mountain of debt that Labour in Westminster has pledged to reduce.
May I, as a Darton East voter, ask just where Labour will make savings if not in the areas listed in its publication?
