The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican: Big Neet Art

Hailing from Barnsley Rock City in't north, The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican formed when estranged brothers Scott and Danny Doonican, met by chance for the first time on-board a local mobile library, whilst both trying to research the origins of their family tree. Little did they know at the time, that their efforts at genealogy would reveal to them a very well kept secret. This revelation led them along the righteous garden path towards making their mark on the world of music and (very) light entertainment. In the same way in which they were driven together, they were both compelled to follow in the footsteps of a legendary TV musician and entertainer, very close to their hearts. Determined to follow in these immortal footsteps, they naturally began to perform other famous people’s songs complete with new lyrics about life in't North. To complete their squeaky-clean image, they became instantly recognisable for their immaculate hair and their stylish dress-sense.Coincidentally, on that fateful day, on-board the mobile library, the duo was very soon to become a threesome (not in the biblical sense). The driver of the aforementioned book-bus, Alan Doonican, happened to share in their love for trendy knit-wear and had learned to play accordion from one of the books on his bus. It was no coincidence that Brother Alan became an honorary member of the band, and Scott and Danny went on to become honorary members of the library.Sadly, tragedy struck the band when Danny Doonican discovered a problem with the validity of his birth-certficate. Realising his true identity, the son of a sheet-metal worker from Sheffield, he went into exhile in Marbella. However, on a much lighter note, further family-tree research led the remaining Doonicans to locate another wayward Bar-Steward brother, former lion-tamer Andy Doonican, who they met for the first time, by accident in the easy-listening section of Barnsley's HMV store. Despite having splinter damage to his left hand from chair-wielding, he proved himself more than capable to handle the great responsibility of being a full-time Bar-Steward. Another note-worthy fact is that he is ready and willing to prove that wolves really do exist (but that's another story). The Bar-Steward Sons have, in their short history played hundreds of side-splitting shows and have brought smiles and belly-laughs to audiences all over the universe (well... mainly the North of England). They have also supported or played alongside many top live acts from a wide range of genres, including folk legends Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy & Norman Waterson, local heavy metal guru Graham Oliver from Saxon, glam-rock legend Roy Wood, fellow-comedy-folkies The Lancashire Hotpots, BBC Funk DJ and star of Red Dwarf Craig Charles, Ian Dury's amazing band The Blockheads, Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls from The Wonder Stuff, prog-rock legends Focus, 3 Daft Monkeys, Ben Ottewell from Gomez, The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Carter USM, Tom Hingley from Inspiral Carpets and even The Bay City Rollers. Together they continue their mission to keep their retired father's legacy alive. The rest, as they say, is history...
