Michelle’s venture on the up

A BUSINESSWOMAN used to dealing with up to four weddings a day was taken aback when she was approached by someone organising a funeral. Michelle Rowan was asked to provide about 20 balloons which mourners planned to release at a burial.

"The idea was for daughters and grandaughters to let the balloons fly into the air at the graveside," Michelle recalls. "The family thought a balloon release would provide a nice touch."

Michelle runs Sparkle which decorates tables at venues for wedding receptions, birthday and engagement parties and a shop on Old Mill Lane called Party Animals which sells hats, decorations and other items.

She set up Sparkle in November 2007 and Party Animals about four years ago. The latter firm used to be at Elsecar Heritage Centre. Turnover of Party Animals has doubled in each of the last two years.
