Scott Golbourne says the Reds’ next three league matches, including a trip to his hometown club, will be crucial to their survival mission.
After their FA Cup game at MK Dons, 22nd-placed Barnsley will host Wolves who are one place above them before travelling to second bottom Bristol City – with whom Golbourne began his career – then welcoming Bolton who are currently three points clear of safety.
Left-back Golbourne, 24, said: “Those games will be massive.“The matches against teams that are in and around us in the table are all six-pointers. We only have to finish ahead of three other teams at the end of the season.
"We just need to keep this momentum going and if we do we will reap the rewards. It is getting really tight near the bottom of the league and there are a lot of teams who will be looking over their shoulder even from mid-table. I think there are at least six or seven teams that could go down.
“There is not much difference between the teams at the top and bottom like there is in the Premier League where Man United dominate the lower sides.”
