Percussionist strikes big time

EUROVISION fans will be able to enjoy music performed by a Barnsley man when the cheesy contest is staged in Russia.

University Campus lecturer Pete Birkby, 52, is percussionist on the title music.

He has played with Grimethorpe brass band as well as with stars like Shirley Bassey. But was excited when he was invited to the Abbey Road studios in London to record the Eurovision music. "It will be interesting to see how the music is used," he said.
