DETROIT Soul Sound performed in public for the first time in 40 years on Saturday, May 2.

The group re-formed last year to celebrate the ruby wedding anniversary of keyboardist and former member Derick Emson and his wife Pamela, of Milano Rise, Darfield.

After that performance they promised more gigs and Saturday's show in Mexborough was the first.

Derick said: "The evening turned out to be such a success that it looks very promising that the members will agree to a return booking."
