BARNSLEY Metropolitan Band received a blow when a new £2,000 cornet broke this week days before the band’s most important concert of the year. The new Schilke soprano cornet came apart at one of the joints and now makes a rasping buzzing sound. It will not be a major repair and is covered under warranty, but it comes just before the cornet’s first major test - Bandfest 2007.
A CONTROVERSIAL rock band which defaced an image of the Last Supper by imposing a picture of Hitler's head onto a disciple's body will play in Barnsley tomorrow. 'This is Menace' has been booked by a group of young music enthusiasts to perform at the Metrodome and about 2,000 are expected to attend.
MUSIC lovers of all ages and genres headed to the old Barnsley Main for BomFest on Saturday. The main stage was dominated by rock but folk, indie, urban and dance tents provided plenty of choice for those who wanted to hear some alternative sounds.
BARNSLEY musicians will be competing for a £1,000 prize at KGV’s battle of the bands final on Thursday. Out of the 30 groups that entered in February, only Green Man Says Go, The Paradigms and Tom Attah remain in the competition.
A TEENAGE music lover organised a one-day festival in town this week. Lewis Simms put together the One Up, One Down gig at Citrus Rooms and managed to attract bands from across the UK.
MEET Mid-Air 91 — the latest Barnsley band hoping to fly up the charts. The lads are attracting interest from a major label which wants them to tour in America.
POPULAR Barnsley band The Headliners are in the last 20 of a competition entered by about 800 groups. The group entered the song, Bottle After Bottle, in the AKG unsigned heroes competition and were surprised to get this far.
