BARNSLEY was treated to a glorious cacophony of Indian sounds as Bollywood Brass Band descended on the Civic. They played music from a range of Bollywood films, with several pieces performed as accompaniment to dance sequences shown on a screen. The effect was hugely impressive, as the natural flow of the dances and all their jerky motions were mirrored perfectly in the music.

EUROVISION fans will be able to enjoy music performed by a Barnsley man tomorrow night when the cheesy contest is staged in Russia. University Campus lecturer Pete Birkby, 52, is percussionist on the title music.

DETROIT Soul Sound performed in public for the first time in 40 years on Saturday. The group re-formed last year to celebrate the ruby wedding anniversary of keyboardist and former member Derick Emson and his wife Pamela, of Milano Rise, Darfield.

TICKETS have sold out for the Exit Calm concert at the Polish Club on Friday, May 1. After that performance the band - two of whom are from Barnsley - will start a national tour supporting the Sunshine Underground. The band has also been invited to play at Glastonbury festival and their music is going to be used on the soundtrack of Hollywood film, The Black Pearl.
