In 2007 The Communications Clinic was commissioned by The Barnsley Chronicle Group to produce a readership survey within the circulation area of the Barnsley Chronicle.
The questionnaire, sampling methodology, technical data and specifications were constructed to conform to the current Jicreg (Joint Industry Commission for Regional Press) guidelines, accepted as best practice within the regional press research industry.
The fieldwork was carried out by Interviewing Services Limited between the 16th April and the 27th May inclusive. A total of 399 face to face in-home interviews were achieved across 210 different sampling points.
The survey area for the Barnsley Chronicle is described by the following postcode sectors where household penetration is 10% or greater of households: S35 (2,7); S36 (6,7,8,9); S63 (0,5,6,7,8,9); S70 (1,2,3,4,5,6); S71 (1,2,3,4,5); S72 (0,7,8,9); S73 (0,8,9); S74 (0,8,9); S75 (1,2,3,4,5,6) and WF4 (2).
According to the Jicpops data, there are 201,449 adults aged 15+ live in the survey area. 80% of the Barnsley Chronicles total circulation falls within research area which also contains the whole of the Barnsley Independents distribution area.
